Young Frankenstein

Young Frankenstein, 2013 Ogunquit Playhouse.  Directed by: JEFF WHITING.  Designed by: ROBIN WAGNER.

Lighting Design by: RICHARD LATTA.

This set was rented. Some of the set pieces were too large to fit on our stage.  When this happens we do some supplemental building.  This Cave unit is an example of what we do to recreate an original design on a smaller scale to fit our stage.

The Barn Backwall

White Christmas, 2015 The Music Hall, produced by The Ogunquit Playhouse.  Directed by JAYME MCDANIEL.  Designed by ANNA LOUIZOS.

This set was half rented and half supplementally built.  Our shop made smaller versions of the original design of The barn wall as well as two other set pieces to fit our space.  This was a 9 step painted process by one person (myself) in a period of 5 days.  The wall was 21'X36'.

Sky Drop

Sister Act, 2015 Ogunquit Playhouse.  Directed by STEVEN BECKLER.  Designed by ADAM KOCH.  Lighting Design by: RICHARD LATTA.

This drop was painted by 2 painters, myself and my assistant Tamsen Warner in 2 days.  Day one was strech, starch, and cartoon the drop.  Day two was masking and painting.

The Frame

The Frame

The Cave's frame was built by two carpenters in a day or so. After they finished it went to the paint shop.

Attaching the Foam

Attaching the Foam

Attaching the foam, carving, and painting the cave unit was a two person job. My assistant (KATHLEEN MORIARTY) would cut pieces down to size as I was adhering pieces in place. This way we did not have to stop and could keep going until finished.

On Stage

This piece was made for Young Frankenstein. The original set piece did not come with the set. Our carpenters spent a day building the frame, and we spent 2 days carving and painting. This was our finished product.

Deck Treatment

Deck Treatment

Deck treatment for Young Frankenstein. This took two painters 6 hours (approximately 1,300 sq ft) to do one base coat, two sponged colors, 3 spatters, and 1 coat of poly.
