Willy Wonka Jr.

Willy Wonka Jr., Ogunquit Playhouse, 2012. Directed by: PAUL BREWSTER. Designed by: CHERYL DOLAN
This collection of photos shows a step by step process of a puppet that was used for "The Bubble Room" in Willy Wonka. Our director had requested puppets to teach the kids another way to perform. This was what we came up with.
![]() Step 1This prop was a collaborative effort. Our ATD, Kevin Opasinski, was gracious enough to donate his extra riding lawn mower. He stripped it down to the chassis and handed it over to me to scrub down, and paint. | ![]() Step 2It went back to the ATD, where he built the frame back up, placed in the seat, extended the steering wheel, placed the arms, and covered in it foam. |

![]() Step 3At this point it went back to me, where I started to carve away. | ![]() Step 4Next, it got a coat of Flexbond. |
![]() Step 5On goes a basecoat (with extra Flexbond mixed in). | ![]() Step 6The final color was applied, cartooned, poly was put on, and the arms were put on. Kevin put foam tubing over the wires. I made wire hands and put gloves over them with polyfil to beef them up a bit. This was a fun project. Thank you Kevin! It would not have been possible without you! |
